Coast Musician laid to rest in Kirinyaga County

The eulogy of Festus Muriuki Njiru who a  Mombasa Coastal City based teacher /choirmaster during his funeral ceremony at Gatunguru Anglcan church grounds, Kirinyaga County yesterday

A renowned coastal County based music  choir master  has been laid to rest at his Mugucu  village  farm , Kirinyaga .

Festus Muriuki Njiru was accorded a befitting send off by his colleagues and entire teaching fraternity from  the Coastal City at a ceremony held  at Gatunguru primary school grounds .

The deceased  who was eulogized  as one  of the most dedicated teachers  from the region for his commitment and due diligence  to duty.

Teachers ,Church members , senior educationists , parents and pupils who had benefited from Njiru’s teaching skills braved the long night long journey from Mombasa  to  funeral venue to accord  him the last respects he deserved.

Some of  the children (now adults ) he  had  taught  since being posted to the region in 1994 upon completing his P1 training at Bondo Teacher Training College wept uncontralably as they eulogized their teacher, mentor and role model.

His first posting was Amani primary school where he taught up to 1998 rising to a Deputy Headmaster after which he was transferred to Sparki primary school as its Headmaster .

He was later moved to Changamwe Primary school in 2015 as the Headmaster until his demise on April 21 after a short illness  aged 57.

It was while in his teaching career that he became one of the best music teachers  and  composer in the region and got elected the Coastal Music Festival Chairman.

Njiru other than being a teacher  he was also a devoted Anglican Faithful  as attested by members of his congregation who travelled to the mt Kenya region to bid him farewell.

At home he was  a loving husband and a father to his children besides having come from a large  family .

His KNUT fellow members , its coastal region leadership , teaching fraternity were all in attendance and eulogized him as a  Hero   within the Community he served .

“Without an aorta of doubt  , the gap left in the teaching fraternity will be hand  to fill while his talent in music will  remain unrivalled  for many years to come,”said Bundi Muriuki , a senior Educationist who represented the ministry of education from the coastal City  of Mombasa  whole condoling the deceased’s family at the funeral.
