
Leaders to sensitize regional residents

The group led by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said the drive will ensure that the region voted as a block in accordance with the wish of president Uhuru Kenyatta as well as the region’s council of elders.
The leaders added that the exercise to commence from next month (new year)shall also be used to preach peace as well as listen to the voices and wishes of the residents.
Both leaders spoke over the weekend after holding a meeting with 350 representatives of 10 Counties across the region who comprised of the region's council of elders, youths and people living with disability.
Munya told the press later that the elders' wishes on the political path that the region ought to take in next year’s general elections concurs with president Kenyatta ‘s political wish .
“We have had a fruitful discussion with elders drawn from all the ten counties where we unanimously agreed to heed to President Kenyatta’s guidance. “the CS said .
Added Munya “by listening to their wishes, the elders seem to have been keen on watching the president’s body language and we can conclusively say at this point that both parties seem to be in agreement,”
He said that as the region’s leaders, their role shall be to deliver the message to the people as from early next year to ensure that the area delivered a commanding number of votes in the polls.
Munya at the same time took a swipe at his political rivals who have been attacking civil servants who are engaging in politics.
“You cannot intimidate us by telling us that we cannot play politics. I have been in politics for a long time and no one holds the monopoly of engagement as far as the 2022 general elections are concerned. “he fumed .
The CS maintained that president Kenyatta shall continue being the region’s political supremo and shall have a big role in shaping next year’s elections outcome much as he shall retire from presidency.

His sentiments were echoed by Kibicho who termed president Kenyatta ‘s position as the region kingpin as standard.
“His position is standard and everything he orders us to do, we shall dutifully do and thereafter ask the reason for doing it and ,if he orders us to jump ,we shall do so and then get to know the reason for doing it afterwards ,” he said .
The PS underscored the importance of the region’s readiness before August ,2022 so as to contribute in giving the nation accountable leaders.
“We need to put our house in order early enough so that our people will not vote blindly. As a result,we need from January to start sensitizing them on the need to ask the right questions to politicians who are begging them for their votes.”the no nonsense PS told the media at the Abai hotel in Kagio town.
The PS also hailed the drive saying it shall ensure that the region will speak in one voice before the 2022 general elections and noted that some politicians had worked hard to see to it that both Mt Kenya east and Mt Kenya west voted independently so as to divide the regional votes.
On his part Kirinyaga Jubilee Party Chairman Muriithi Kang’ara said any presidential candidate courting Mt Kenya region should ensure that his running mate shall hail from the area.
“This is a rich vote region and we have to ensure that whoever wants our votes shall work with us through the position of a deputy president. We are glad that president Kenyatta is still politically active and is committed to negotiate on behalf of the well-being of the region as far as next year’s election is concerned.”
The official further praised President Kenyatta for assuring the nation that BBI shall one day be realized despite being declared an illegal process by the court and praised the initiative saying it shall help in striking equality in national resource allocation and enable equal representation .
