NTSA mounts boda boda training in Kirinyaga

Public Transport stake holders in conjunction with the Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici have rolled out a one week training program for Boda boda operators in the area.

The training is being conducted by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the National Youth Service (NYS) and other stakeholders including area security agents.

During the period , over 5000 riders  are set to benefit and will be issued with the new generation driving licenses .

Speaking during the roll out at the Kerugoya stadium this morning the NTSA Director for Licensing and Registration Charles Wanjau said the pilot project has so far been implemented in four Counties so far .

Wanjao said after the training the   riders will have  been equipped with the necessary driving skills which will also see the number of road accidents attributed to boda bodas reduced significantly.

At the  same time the Director has warned the riders  not dare use any unregistered motorbike as doing so would be against  the law.

“We have firm instructions to all motorcycle dealers to ensure no unregistered bike was sold out and those who fail to comply with these requirements will face the  full force of the law,”Wanjau said.

He however said  was within the public  domain that some corrupt riders were known to remove the number plates from their bikes in order to conceal the registration number while committing criminal activities.

And the local Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Ndege urged the riders to strictly observe traffic rules  for their sake  and Kenyans road users at large .

Ndege  also pleaded  with the riders not to fall into criminal activities which might ultimately taint their sector.

“The boda boda sector is just like any other and if only the riders self-regulated to maintain discipline, they will certainly go far and become successful like any other business people in the country ,”the official said.

Local trader Andrew Ngirici told the course attendants all the fees required for the period and the new generation licenses they will  be issued with have since been taken care of by the Woman  Representative who is seeking to oust Governor Anne Waiguru  come the general elections .
