Some students from Kerugoya Girls secondary school being brought to the local law courts to face arson charges after they allegedly set their dom on fire last evening
Five students from Kerugoya Girls secondary school in Kirinyaga county have been charged with arson.
The five however denied having set their dormitory ablaze on Sunday evening.
Local Chief Magistrate Atony Ithuku ordered the accused be remanded at the nearby Kerugoya police station until Wednesday morning when their bond application will be considered.
He also directed the area Probation Officer to produce in court that day the social status of each of the five girls.
Meanwhile the school has been closed indefinitely following the Sunday fire incident .
Worried parents started arriving at the school as early as 6 am today after they learnt the school had been torched .
At the same time all the 42 students who had been rushed to the Kerugoya referral hospital after inhaling smoke from the burning dormitory as they rushed to try and salvage their personal property have been discharged .
The school has over 1200 students who are all boarders hence the stampede that ensued after the 6.30 pm fire broke out as they scrumbled to free from fire
