A section of the commercial cum residential building which was gutted down by fire last week in Sagana  town ,Kirinyaga County

Last week’s Sagana town fire victims have received some first aid  assistance from the Kirinyaga County Government .

The assistance comprised  of mattresses and  an assortment of food stuffs which were distributed  to the victims last evening .

They were rendered homeless  by the fire on Wednesday night after  their dwellings contained in a commercial cum residential  building was raced to the ground.

Kirinyaga County CEC  for Agriculture Jackline Njogu (right)briefs  the media after consoling the victims of Sagana town last week's fire tragedy when she paid them a call last evening on  behalf of the county boss Anne Waiguru.

While distributing the aid  on behalf of Governor Anne Waiguru who could not be present  due to exigency of other official matters , the County CEC  for Agriculture Jaqueline  Njogu said it was unfortunate the families were left suffering  by the tragedy.

She however said the county was in the process of ensuring there were mini firefighting Machines in every town within the area to cater for any emergency.

“We  are presently putting up a modern firefighting facility in Kutus town which is  centrally ,located to respond  to any fire disaster within the shortest time possible ,”she said.

Kirinyaga County team led by the Agriculture CEC Jackline Njogu inspecting the fire damage on a commercial cum residential building in Sagana r town which was raced down by fire last week  before distributing to the victims some mattresses and an assortment of food stuffs last evening on behalf of governor Anne Waiguru 

Njogu added that the Kutus fire station will be equipped with the state of the arts facilities and will also have some boarding rooms where the firemen will be residing in order to enable them respond on time to any emergency.

The construction works of the facility have since began in earnest and the area residents will no longer depend on firefighting machines from the neighboring counties as is the situation currently.

During the Sagana incident , fire fighters from the nearby Muranga  town had to be called in to save the  situation after a mini machine the county is depending on got overwhelmed .

The main county fire engine was towed to Nairobi last year after an accident while responding to  a fire incident within the outskirts  of Kerugoya town.

It was  claimed  an Insurance company which towed it was  withholding the machine over certain undisclosed issue s with the  client, the county government .

Last evening the proprietor of the burnt down building Lucy Wanjiru expressed gratitude to the governor for her good gesture  during the hour need.

“We will forever be grateful to Waiguru for coming to our rescue since life has been terribly bad since last week when this fire tragedy struck us with those who used to conduct  their business here or resided  in the burnt down rooms ,”Wanjiru said .

The building had  a Salon, a Dhobi , a green grocery , a  Radio and TV  repair Workshop besides living rooms whose tenants  have now been rendered homeless.
