UDA officials from Kirinyaga County are crying foul after they were denied access by the government to hold a public rally at Wanguru International stadium .
Had the official been granted permission party leader William Ruto would have used the venue to popularize his presidential ambition this Saturday .
Led by Governor Anne Waiguru ,the officials accused the government of applying double standards while authorizing those to use the stadium.
Some of the UDA members after they addressed a press conference at the Destiny hotel , Sagana this afternoon protesting the denial to host their party boss William Ruto at the Wanguru International stadium , Mwea ,this Saturday
“Just late last year , we saw Interior PS Karanja Kibicho and Andrew Ngirici (husband to area woman Rep Wangui Ngirici and her gubernatorial seat competitor ) use the venue to issue driving licenses and the same venue was used to host last year’s Mashujaa day celebrations only for our party to be denied access on flimsy claims that it was still under construction ,”Waiguru said.
Accompanied by the Gichugu MP Gichimu Githinji , Assembly Majority leader Kamau Murango and several MCAs , Waiguru said after they made an application to use the stadium this Saturday , the response was negative .
She said the ministry of Culture and Sports claimed the venue was still undergoing finishing touches yet those who appear to be politically correct were expressly using the facility.
Waiguru said regardless of this unfortunate scenario, the scheduled rally will still take place at another venue within Mwea.
She claimed her party was being denied the venue due to its popularity in the area but regardless of this unfortunate situation William Ruto remains the people’s choice .
The governor who caused jitters last year after she ditched Jubilee to join UDA said her party boss was being frustrated left right after his opponents realized they were not making any headways .
“UDA is the party of the moment and any one against its tide risks being swept away hence the continued frustrations of its activities since the so called Azimio is a sponsored project which Kenyans have rejected in totality ,”she said .
Briefing the media at the Destination Hotel , Sagana this afternoon, Waiguru said the Saturday rally will proceed as planned and said the more the government continued to frustrate the party the more popular Ruto was becoming with the electorate .
The stadium was built was built in a record one year and is a state of the arts facility second to none in mt Kenya region .
