The intended setting up of an Industrial Park at  the outskirts of Sagana town will be a game  changer for both the business and  farming communities in Kirinyaga County .

County Governor Anne Waiguru said the park will  not only provide an enabling environment to do business bit also an area  for the processing and value addition of agricultural produce.

She said the facility will also have a Sports Complex, a Golf  Course  and a  health  section to cater for  the needs of the community carrying out business at the venue.

Governor Anne Waiguru  being explained about some of the services the Kenya Agricultural Research and Livestock Organisation undertakes to improve crop production after she opened a two day business and agricultural Expo at the Nice Digital City ,Mwea yesterday.


“This park will  be so strategically  placed given only a small section of the Sagana- Nanyuki railway line will be extended to ensure both raw materials and  processed goods were transported  with ease and  cost friendly  for both the traders and the  farmers ,”she said.

Speaking at the Nice Digital City complex  Mwea  moments after opening a two day Business and Agricultural Expo yesterday , the governor said the facility to be set up on  the 250 acres of land her admiration had recovered from a grabber ,will open up  new frontiers for the local population and investors .

She urged Investors both international and local to look nowhere else except at Sagana where ample land was available as well  as reliable road and railway networks .

The governor applauded the Nice Digital City patron Njiru Mkombozi for allowing the Expo to be  undertaken at his premises where  various exhibitors  interacted with the farmers and consumers of their products  one on one .

She was accompanied by  her Deputy Wachira Githanda ,a battery of her CECMs ,  several MCAs and Chief Officers from her  Administration  led by the Finance one  Jackline Njogu.

The  governor assured area residents that once a tomato processing factory was put up Karii  market ,most of the by-products the country imports  will now be easily available for both  national and export markets .

On his part ,Mkpmbozi who also runs the largest private rice  milling factory  in East Africa said a total of 60 per cent of all the rice crop produced at the Mwea Irrigation scheme was milled at his facility.

“At the Nice Digital City we do not only mill rice from  the Mwea Irrigation scheme but also provide for  free storage facilities as well as allow  a free open market space  to the grain traders who eke a living from trading with the crop,”Mkomozi said.

He also said he was pleased to have hosted the expo and urged other investors to follow the example of the Family Bank which had financed his venture at affordable credit basis.
