School gets JSS certification

The government has certified Kerugoya Municipality Primary school in Kirinyaga County as the first institution  in the area  to offer the Junior Secondary school program.

The vital document was presented to the school’s manager Solomon  Munene by the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Education in charge of infrastructure  in public school Professor Fatuma Chege.

The PS was at the school to launch the JSS facility the institution has established in readiness to  accommodate learners next year.

While lauding the school administration for being the  first to comply with the requirements of the JSS learning , Prof Chege said parents  will now have the opportunity  to choose the schools they would want their children to join .

“Parents have now this open window to assist their children to select schools of their choice  and this is the first time in the history of our education system this happened ,”Chege told the parents.

The parents had assembled at the school where they were taken through  the process of the selection where a learner  and the parent participate jointly in  the exercise and with a guidance from the education department .

The official also dispelled as a myth by the critics of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), which has brought about these radical changes in the education system  that the program was difficult to implement .

Said the official “ unlike the old system , teachers  and parents are able to identify at an early age the talent a child  has which makes it easier to nature and inculcate into such a child the values related to  such identified natural gift ,”.

She said she was particularly impressed by the ability of the learners at the school to perform various dances and also cat walk at a very youthful age  .

“I believe the potential in these young learners if properly natured and developed will in the course of their studies translate into an source of their livelihoods just like we have witnessed renowned musicians  and  other talents world over  become  celebrities and multi -millionaires ,”the official said .

Munene on his part said the school took part in beauty pageant  in Dubai  but the program stagnated after the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic .

He said plans were aloof to revive the program since the school had a many talented pupils whom it wished to continue to nature.

The county , it also emerged  has  about 10000 places for JSS  class  and parents have nothing to worry about  as to where their children will be placed come January next year.
