Friends and relatives of a senior Government employee Josephine Wanjiru have mourned her demise after a battle with stomach cancer.
Wanjiru who was laid to rest at her father’s rural Rukenya home on Friday was until her demise a senior employee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
A battery of youthful Women Ambassadors and former colleagues attended the burial ceremony held at Rukenya Anglican church and presided over by Canon Dr Moses Mwangi .
Born 56 years ago to Mwaniki Thuo and Wambere Mwaniki , the later Wanjiru rose the ranks from a High School Teacher to a senior officer at the TSC .
She would then through her hand work proceed to head the Wellness and HIV Unit at the Foreign Affairs , a position she retained until her sudden demise a week ago.
Speaker after speaker eulogized her as a humble and dedicated worker who despite her senior position related to all cordially .
In his sermon, Canon Mwangi told the mourners how the deceased had at one point assisted his ailing daughter until she got to her senses .
The Priest however said although it was an electioneering period , politicians who attended the funeral service would only be allowed to wave at the mourners and no speeches .
And true to his Solomonic ruling not even Wanjiru’s uncle Joseph Ndathi who is vying for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat addressed the mourners .
But Ndathi who was the master of the ceremony by virtue of the family tie maintained the highest degree of discipline by not invoking any political rhetoric or overtones in the process despite the glaring advantage .
Apparently it was only Ndathi and Wangui Ngirici who is also a gubernatorial candidate were present and they both obeyed to the request by the Priest
The deceased is survived by two children Dennis Gitu and Phoebe Wambeere who were assured by the larger Mwaniki and their mother’s fraternity of full support despite the demise of their loving mum.
