Waiguru asks Ruto to name a woman running mate,

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has asked Deputy President William Ruto to pick a woman running mate from Mt Kenya region.

Waiguru said she "hopes Ruto will pick his running mate from the  region because the area has high number of votes to propel him to the Presidency.

The governor said though Ruto has the singular role to pick his running mate, she would be glad to deputize him.

"What I know the decision on who will be the running mate is the decision of one William Ruto. The only thing we are expecting is the issue of where that running mate comes from. The discussion is that that person should come from Mt. Kenya region, " Waiguru said.

She reiterated that politics  being a game of numbers UDA was optimistic of winning the 2022 elections.

She said DP Ruto was best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as he understands better, the ongoing development works.

Waiguru is among leaders whose names have featured prominently among possible running mates for presidential candidates.
Added  Waiguru"i think it would be a great honour to be picked as UDA running mate, but right now all my efforts are on defending my Kirinyaga gubenatorial seat,".

However, the governor said she would respect Ruto's choice of a running mate.

Waiguru who spoke during an interview with one of radio stations, said UDA had initiated several deliberate initiatives to help bridge the gender gap in representation by encouraging more women to vie for political seats.

The governor further said her decision to join UDA was informed by Kirinyaga voters.

"The people of Kirinyaga said they are satisfied with the development work we have done, however they said they wouldn’t re-elect me unless I joined UDA,” she said.

Waiguru added that UDA is the most popular political party in Mt. Kenya and anybody saying otherwise is lying to himself.

"I have listened to the ground and is very clear that the party is UDA and their Presidential candidate of choice is William Ruto.”
